Last Ride to Santa Cruz proves turns out to be a very adventurous Western score, Mexican influenced, with strong themes and variations. Released before to the Italian spaghetti western wave, it remains one of the very few fine German film scores of the time, although the Rolf Olsen's moviefelt into oblivion.

For the action scenes composer Erwin Halletz delivered a bold orchestral sound thanks to the German Graunke Symphony Orchestra, which was used in many Hollywood productions as well.
