Brimstone

“Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor has always been my favorite organ piece by Bach. I have been looking for an opportunity to write music for a film inspired by this beautiful work, which I found in collaborating with Martin Koolhoven. He was immediately attracted to the idea and my resulting composition became a theme for the reverend, in which you can hear the influence of this brilliant Bach piece. His music will continue inspiring myself and many other composers for years to come! Enjoy! – Tom Holkenborg

Brimstone is the new picture by Dutch film director Martin Koolhoven (Winter in Wartime), starring Dakota Fanning, Guy Pearce, Kit Harrington and Carice van Houten. This western thriller film was selected to compete for the Golden Lion at the 73rd Venice International Film Festival and tells the story of Liz (Dakota Fanning): accused of a crime she never committed by the vengeful Reverend, has to fight and survive for her daughter.

The score to Brimstone was composed by industry veteran Tom Holkenborg AKA Junkie XL. Famous for his 90’s and 00’s big beats and electronica albums, remixes and commercials, Junkie XL has also composed brilliant music for many motion pictures since ten years such as 300: Rise of an Empire, Divergent, Mad Max: Fury Road, Deadpool and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (with Hans Zimmer).

He composed for Brimstone a moving orchestral score featuring profound strings and strong drones, as dark and troubling as the film.
