Music for Film - expanded CD's

Film Festival Gent has expanded 3 of their Music for Film soundtracks. Those of Mychael Danna, Gabriel Yared and Shigeru Umebayashi

Film Fest Ghent presents the expanded reissue Mychael Danna: Music for Film. Guest of honour at the 2007 World Soundtrack Awards, Mychael Danna has consistently been one of the most original and intelligent voices in film music of the past 30 years, his musical achievements having earned him an honorary doctorate from the University of Toronto in 2014 and a Career Achievement Award from the Zurich Film Festival in 2021. He has become renowned for his collaborations with Atom Egoyan, Ang Lee and Mira Nair.

This album includes highlights from his scores for Monsoon Wedding, Where the Truth Lies, Capote and Little Miss Sunshine among other films. Recorded specifically for this new edition are suites from Hearts in Atlantis, Moneyball and his Oscar-winning score for Life of Pi. All tracks are studio recordings except for one bonus track – the live performance of the suite from The Ice Storm at the 2007 World Soundtrack Awards concert.

The new album Mychael Danna: Music for Film is licensed to Silva Screen Records and will be released during the 48th edition of Film Fest Ghent in October 2021. All pieces are performed by the Brussels Philharmonic and Vlaams Radiokoor, conducted by Film Fest Ghent music director Dirk Brossé.

In celebration of Gabriel Yared’s Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2020 World Soundtrack Awards, Film Fest Ghent releases the album Gabriel Yared: Music for Film. Available internationally for the first time, this expanded reissue provides a comprehensive overview of the celebrated composer’s work for film, including music from Camille Claudel, his Academy Award-winning score The English Patient and The Talented Mr Ripley.

On the 10th anniversary of the original album, Film Fest Ghent in collaboration with Gabriel Yared has updated this unique compilation with 50 minutes of newly recorded music from the composer’s rich oeuvre, expanding it to a double-disc album. The additional tracks include specially created suites from Troy, L’avion, Les saveurs du Palais and Tom à la ferme as well as recordings of the concert suites from classic scores such as Betty Blue and City of Angels.

Gabriel Yared: Music for Film is performed by the Brussels Philharmonic and Vlaams Radiokoor, conducted by Film Fest Ghent music director Dirk Brossé, and features Gabriel Yared himself on piano for selected pieces.

The new album is licensed to Silva Screen Records and will be released during the 48th edition of Film Fest Ghent in October 2021.

As a third release Film Fest Ghent presents the expanded release Shigeru Umebayashi: Music for Film. The Japanese composer is famous for his collaborations with Wong Kar-wai, but also foregrounded here is the rich variety of the composer’s film oeuvre and his collaborations with directors from all over the world. The album includes highlights from 2046, House of Flying Daggers, Curse of the Golden Flower and his world-famous “Yumeji’s Theme” from In the Mood for Love. Among the new recordings produced for this update are pieces from Sorekara, A Single Man and Sylvia Chang, Li Shaohong & Joan Chen’s 2021 anthology film Hero.

Shigeru Umebayashi: Music for Film is performed by Brussels Philharmonic and Vlaams Radiokoor, conducted by Dirk Brossé, music director of Film Fest Ghent.
