Note From The Composer:
In the story, though the characters live in different times their destiny is linked. Following this concept, one of the goals for the score was to create a sense of unity.
We wanted to bring in ethnic instruments from the Canary Islands, using drums and percussion (chacaras, seashells and castanets) for the 15th century time and introducing the timple, a guitar-like instrument, for the 1940´s time.
The bucio, a wind instrument made from a conch, is used on all of these times. I like to think of it as a ‘destiny call’ that sounds during key moments along the movie.
The theme is a long melody that can be heard on tracks “Como Se Conocieron” and “La Piel del Volcan”. The 1940’s time has its own theme heard on tracks “Solo Quiero Dormir” and “Vas a Vivir”. “Inicio” and “Cierro Mis Ojos” are meant to have a dreamy tone to give the scene a feeling of timelessness. - Navid Hejazi -

Navid’s work on ‘La Piel del Volcan’ is one of my favorite scores of all time. I believe the level of creativity and sensitivity put on his creation has reached breathtaking heights.
What he brought with his music has a unique emotional value, giving the movie a new dimension, accompanying the audience in an intimate way during the human journey proposed on this story with Canary roots.
From this islander feeling the movie gives shape to emotions that can be recognizable and understandable around the world and Navid’s work has been key to transit from a local to a universal level in a natural, organic and exciting way. - Armando Ravelo -
