This is Ivor Novello Award winning composer Dominik Scherrer’s soundtrack to the six-part thriller series The Tourist, written by Harry and Jack Williams (The Missing, Baptiste) and starring Jamie Dornan, Danielle Macdonald, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson and Alex Dimitriades. Dominik’s music to the series incorporates acoustic elements including solo strings, guitars, choir and percussion which have been processed electronically, resulting in a brilliantly diverse score that showcases Dominik’s fresh and innovative approach to composing.

The Tourist soundtrack album is being released simultaneously in both stereo and Dolby Atmos. The series was mixed in the Dolby Atmos sound format, so it is fantastic that the soundtrack can be listened to on a home Dolby Atmos playback system for a fully immersive experience.

“There are two major roles in ‘The Tourist’ score — it’s almost a kind of yin and yang concept. One is the dark and brooding, unnerving one, with processed solo strings, in particular cello solos, processed vocals played through guitar amplifiers, some slowed down as well as chopped up elements. The other side is the lyrical one. I was inspired by early 19th century hymns - I felt there was an unwritten religious tone to the script. Perhaps because it’s about only a few people in an unforgiving desert, and one can imagine a god who watches them from above.
It was amazing reuniting with Jack and Harry Williams, who wrote one of the funniest and most intriguing scripts I’ve ever read, and also working with director Chris Sweeney because we shared similar musical instincts.” – Dominik Scherrer

About The Tourist:
The Tourist is a character driven thriller series set in Australia. Following a car chase and being run off the road in the Australian outback a nameless traveller (Jamie Dornan) wakes in hospital alive but with no memory of who he is. As he searches for answers about his identity, he has to contend with merciless figures from his past pursuing him.

The series has been produced by Two Brothers Pictures for the BBC, in association with Highview Productions, All3Media International, the South Australian Film Corporation, HBO Max, Stan and ZDF.

About Dominik Scherrer:
Extremely fresh, innovative, and resourceful, Emmy-nominated composer Dominik Scherrer has emerged as one of the most talented score composers of his generation.

Dominik most recently scored the HBO Max/BBC series The Tourist, starring Jamie Dornan. In 2021, he scored the hit Netflix/ BBC series The Serpent, written by Richard Warlow and starring Jenna Coleman and Tahar Rahim. “Dominik Scherrer’s marvellous score, a riot of analogue synths and percussion drawing on exploitation movie soundtracks of yore to intoxicating effect, and adding just a hint of illicit viewing pleasure to spice up the schedules.” (Sight & Sound) Dominik’s score to The Serpent is currently nominated for the Ivor Novello Awards 2022 for ‘Best Television Score’ and this is Dominik’s 5th Ivor Novello nomination.

Other scores include the BAFTA nominated BBC drama film Elizabeth is Missing an adaption of the book by Emma Healey, the 8-part thriller The Widow for ITV/Amazon starring Kate Beckinsale and Charles Dance, both seasons of BBC’s Baptiste written by Harry and Jack Williams, and Mammoth Screen’s The City & The City directed by Tom Shankland.

Equally accomplished in film scoring, Dominik’s credits include Alina Marazzi’s Tutto Parla Di Te (All About You), Scenes of a Sexual Nature starring Ewan McGregor and Hugh Bonneville, The Truth, The Nine Lives of Tomas Katz, Alice Through The Looking Glass starring Kate Beckinsale, and Appetite starring Ute Lemper, for which he also wrote the title song, which reached No. 2 on the UK classical charts.

Dominik is a British-Swiss composer who works from his studio in Spitalfields, London.
