Philippe Sarde is the composer’s Academy Award-nominated score for Roman Polanski’s 1979 drama Tess based on Thomas Hardy’s Tess of the d’Urbervilles with Nastassja Kinski, Peter Firth, Leigh Lawson, John Collin, Martin, Carolyn Pickles and Richard Pearson
In the Victorian period, a rural clergyman tells John Durbeyfield, a simple farmer, that he is descended from the illustrious d'Urberville family -- now extinct. Or maybe not. Durbeyfield sends his daughter Tess to check on a family named d'Uberville living in a manor house less than a day's carriage ride away. Alec d'Urberville is delighted to meet his beautiful 'cousin' and seduces her with strawberries and roses. Actually, Alec has gotten his illustrious name and coat of arms by purchasing them. Tess also takes up the game of illusion when she finds, loses and finds again her true love Angel Claire.
The second album is the Jean-Jacques Annaud’s 1988 adventure drama The Bear (L’ours) based on James Oliver Curwood’s novel The Grizzly King and with Bart the Bear, Youk the Bear, Tcheky, Karyo, Jack Wallace and Andre Lacombe.
A infant bear cub witnesses the death of his mother in a rockslide and is forced to set out to fend for himself. The young bear encounters a giant grizzly (Bart the Bear), who at first cannot abide the young bear's presence. However, the grizzly is soon ambushed by a pair of hunters -- Bill (Jack Wallace) and Tom (Tcheky Karyo) -- after an altercation with their pack animals. As the injured beast cleans his wounds in a stream, the young bear comes to his aid, and the giant takes the youngster under his wing. However, Bill and Tom have sworn revenge on the grizzly, and when they capture the young bear, it lures the giant back into the hunters' camp.
