Lakeshore Records has released Nainita Desai’s score to 14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible —Soundtrack from the Netflix Film, available digitally on all major music services globally!
Nainita’s score is nominated for Best Score, Documentary Film at this year’s Hollywood Music in Media Awards (HMMA).
Directed by Torquil Jones, 14. Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible premieres November 29, 2021 on Netflix.
The film explores Nepal’s deep connection to high-altitude mountaineering through Nims’ eyes as part of his Project Possible quest. The previous record is just shy of eight years. With a team of skilled Sherpas, Nimsdai traverses Mount Everest, K2, and other iconic peaks through extreme weather, life-or-death decisions, and the emotional weight of his mother’s illness back home.
Featuring more than 100 hours of footage shot by Nimsdai and his team, the film is a breath-taking journey that gives a truly unique view into life on the Big Mountains.
The 14/7 Challenge took place across April to October 2019, Starting with Nimsdai summiting Annapurna in Nepal on April 23rd and ending with the summit of Shishapangma in China on October 29th..
Desai notes: “This story has it all – danger, tragedy, love, humanity, drama, intimacy, heroism. I felt there was enormous potential to represent the wide range of emotional highs and lows in the film with the score. I was inspired by the grandeur of the cinematography but more importantly Nims himself. He is an intriguing human being – driven, focussed, fearless with an inspirational level of self-belief.
The brief was to compose with a symphonic sound palette. There are 14 mountains to summit in the film, and each mountain had it’s different musical challenges and difficulties. The scale of the story was also quite daunting. I felt I had to match the physical scale of the task at hand by painting with broad brush strokes.
Composing the score was like preparing for my own mountain climb. Each musical cue was epic in it’s own way. I knew strings would play a large feature because they can handle the vast landscapes of the region but could also be brought down to a singular violin for emotional connection.
