With Broken, I had several tracks written with various emotions and feelings that I shared with Patrick Phillips, the film director. He knew what he was looking for and what sounds he wanted for the film. Once he chose the tracks he wanted, he was able to place them accordingly and balance the soundtrack out with various original songs as the source music cues.
Most of the score tracks were used a few times throughout the film. Broken brought home several awards at the 2021 Hollywood North Film Festival including Best Original Score.

Broken is directed by Patrick Phillips with Tina-Marie Springham, Griffin Cork, Laura Buckles, Morgan LeBlanc.

Director's notes:
“Do we have a choice or are we limited by the social culture in which we are born into” Broken focuses on the issues of social class.
The film struggles with questions like: What determines success? Is it measured the same if you’re born into a lower socioeconomic family? What role does the family unit play? What role does society play in forming one’s image and success?
What creates the belief that success is only measured in wealth? Brokens’ lead character Brian, (Griffin Cork) was born to a single teenage mother who did her best to give him what she could, at the expense of spending time with him.
Although Brian always had the basics needed for life, he admired what others had, and wanted that for himself. Because he wasn’t born into a social environment that could show Brian the proper way or teach him how to find a new path, he turned to drugs in attempt to get what he saw others having. Like many in lower income families, drugs and other criminal activity is usually the first “success” they are exposed to.
It becomes the easiest and most clear choice on how to become successful themselves. Coming from a low-income family, I was one of the lucky ones, my parents were determined to create ways for us to get out.
They put us in sports, dance, music, everything they could find so we can find our own strength and passion.
My parents worked multiple jobs in order to move us into a neighborhood that we could flourish in, and we all did. But many in similar situations weren’t that lucky and they were jailed or died before they could find their own way out. We live in a time were there a huge gap between the rich and the poor, the middle class is all but gone. I don’t know the answers, but I hope this film will create a conversation and create some empathy on the less fortunate and show that although we are the ones that ultimately make the choice to do what we do in life not everyone has the same number of choices. Sometimes even the best choice available is not a good choice.'
