Available everywhere now, the album features score music written by Hynes for director Gia Coppola’s newest film following a couple as they navigate viral fame.

The album is the latest scoring effort from Hynes, following his critically-acclaimed score for director Luca Guadagnino’s HBO original series We Are Who We Are. The project also continues a longstanding creative partnership for Hynes and Coppola, the duo most notably having worked together on Coppola’s directorial debut Palo Alto. Starring Maya Hawke and Andrew Garfield, Mainstream debuts in theaters Friday, May 7 from IFC Films.

'I love everything Dev makes,” says director Gia Coppola of the film’s score. “For Mainstream, I felt he really tapped into the many emotions you weave through when trying to coexist in this new digital world, yet still keeping it classic.”

In addition to the film’s score album, Milan Records also releases “This Is Mainstream” as a stand-alone single today. Written and produced by composer, producer and songwriter Eldad Guetta and featuring vocals by singer and composer Fiora, the energetic EDM track features prominently in the film, soundtracking a choreographed dance number by Mainstream lead actor Andrew Garfield.

In Mainstream, a young woman (Maya Hawke) thinks she’s found a path to internet stardom when she starts making YouTube videos with a charismatic stranger (Andrew Garfield) – until the dark side of viral celebrity threatens to ruin them both.

About Devonté Hynes
Producer, multi-instrumentalist, composer, songwriter and vocalist Devonté Hynes is one of the most influential voices in music today. Raised in England, Hynes started out as a teenage punk in the UK band Test Icicles before releasing two orchestral acoustic pop records as Lightspeed Champion.
In 2011, he released Coastal Grooves, the first of four solo albums under the moniker Blood Orange.
His 2016 album, Freetown Sound, was released to critical acclaim, and saw Hynes defined as one of the foremost musical voices of his time, receiving comparisons to the likes of Kendrick Lamar and D’Angelo for his own searing and soothing personal document of life as a black man in America. His 2018 album, Negro Swan, was released to equally rapturous response, exploring elements of black depression and identity.
It was followed by a mixtape entitled Angel’s Pulse in 2019. He has collaborated with Solange Knowles, fka twigs, ASAP Rocky, Puff Daddy, Janet Mock, and many more, and was recently one of four artists invited to the Kennedy Center to perform alongside Philip Glass.
In addition to his production work, he scored the film Palo Alto, directed by Gia Coppola, as well as the film Queen & Slim, by Lena Waithe and directed by Melina Matsoukas.
In 2020, Hynes appeared in, and released the score to, the Luca Guadagnino HBO show We Are Who We Are.
