Lakeshore Records has released Silk Road—Original Motion Picture Soundtrack featuring music by Mondo Boys (Phoenix Forgotten, The Girlfriend Experience), available now digitally! AKA Mike Griffin and Mike Schanzlin, Mondo Boys have created atmospheric and tension-filled electronic themes reflecting the ever-darker journeys of the two main characters.
The Lionsgate film written and directed by Tiller Rusell and starring Jason Clarke, Nick Robinson, Katie Aselton, Jimmi Simpson, Daniel David Stewart, Darrell Britt-Gibson, Lexi Rabe, Will Ropp, with Paul Walter Hauser, and Alexandra Shipp will be available on digital
Inspired by larger-than-life actual events, this riveting crime thriller follows the rise and fall of Silk Road, the infamous darknet site that sent a seismic shock through the World Wide Web. Young, idealistic, and driven to succeed, Ross Ulbricht (Nick Robinson) creates the internet’s first unregulated marketplace: Silk Road.
But when it becomes a multimillion-dollar pipeline for illicit drugs, Ross is set on a collision course with Rick Bowden (Jason Clarke), a disreputable and dangerously unpredictable DEA agent, who will use any means necessary to take him down.
Mondo Boys note: “The Director, Tiller Russell, had this vision of the two main characters being rockets headed right for each other. So right away we had two different musical engines that we wanted to get their own groove, then interact, overlap, and finally just explode together”
About Mondo Boys
Mondo Boys unique ability to blend catchy melodies into classic orchestral as well as cutting edge modern score has led to their collaborations with legendary filmmakers such Ridley Scott (Phoenix Forgotten) and Steven Soderbergh (The Girlfriend Experience Season 2) in addition to highly buzzed about and acclaimed filmmakers such as Amy Seimetz, Barry Jenkins, Lake Bell and The Nelms Brothers.
Their score and songs have created buzz in Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Spin and NME among other publications.
Mondo Boys’ quick rise to prominence in the film community can be attributed in part to their passion for story and their close collaborations with filmmakers. In 2020 alone, they scored six feature films and two series including a short film with Disney Animation, the Shudder original feature The Mortuary Collection, She Dies Tomorrow, released by Neon, the emotional school-shooting thriller Run Hide Fight, which premiered at Venice International Film Festival, Silk Road which was set to be featured at Tribeca Film Festival and the widely-released irreverent Christmas action/comedy Fatman.
Mike Griffin and Mike Schanzlin have been writing music and nerding out on movies together for over twenty years.
The duo brings a versatility with backgrounds in film production and development as well as music production and engineering.
With a sole focus on music for movies and shows, the heart of their work seems to be collaboration with filmmakers and innate ability to match the genre and atmosphere that every unique story deserves and write not only score but hand-crafted lyric-and-vocal songs.
They are proud to be considered part of the vanguard of the future of film.
