Disques Cinémusique is pleased to present the digital premiere of the Renzo Rossellini’s Vangelo Minimo (The Mininal Gospel) score album released in 1957.
Known as a versatile composer, Renzo Rosellini (1908 - 1982) wrote music for the stage, for movies, composed symphonies and chamber music. In addition to writing about music he was a widely read and belligerent critic. Among his most popular works let’s mention the ballets Winter Tale and Dassine’s Dance; the symphonic compositions Ditties and Prints of Old Rome, Christian Rome, Songs of the Gulf of Naples; the movies Rome Open City, Paisa, Stromboli, The Miracle, Germany Year Zero, Europe 1951, A Journey to Italia. Besides, in the field of religious music he wrote the dramatic oratorios The Nun of the Emigrants and St. Catherine of Siena.
Vangelo Minimo (The Minimal Gospel) was written to illustrate and serve the purpose of a commentary for the movie The Son of the Man, directed Virgilio Sabel. The special character and strenght of this work veers away from the usual moviemaking beaten path to narrate with the humility, ardour and simplicity of the ’’ mystery plays ‘’, the main episodes of the Old and the New Testament.
The musical pages, although they belong to the movie’s soundtrack, were composed as autonomous pictures built along the lines of the musical logic prompted by the imagination , free from the descriptive ties of visual action. This imparts to the music a clean cut value, an expressive meaning which stricly concerns and engage the score.
