Heavens to Betsy 2 (Peter Spero)

Peter Spero presents the album for 'Heavens to Betsy 2'. This is the sequel to the film Heavens to Betsy which was released in 2017.

Album Notes

''The music on this album is from the original soundtrack for the film Heavens to Betsy 2 by Writer/Director Robert Alaniz. This is the sequel to the film Heavens to Betsy which was released in 2017. Writing for this film was an intense and wonderful musical experience. Having already written for the original Heavens to Betsy, I was able to re-invent some of the original movie themes, as well as develop new themes for new scenes and characters.

As music supervisor I also had the great pleasure of choosing some songs from artists that I truly admire and who's creations were perfect for this film. Michael C. Hayes, Aaron Williams, Andrew Salgado, Ronald Selle, and Greg Spero all contributed, as well as myself, and a great performance by singer songwriter Jeff Upton of my original song Grace of God.

I love all of these artists and can't thank them enough for being involved with this film. Working with Director Robert Alaniz was amazing. Robert is a huge fan and collector of movie soundtracks and was extremely helpful in consulting with me during the music creation process. As an experienced film maker, his advice was invaluable to me. Thank you Robert!

If you would like some insight on the process of writing for film here is a taste of what it is like for me. When I sit down to write for a particular scene the first thing I do is watch it multiple times, mostly at least 20 times. After this, I start to get a sense of what the characters are feeling. What happens next is the magical moment. I pick one instrument or section, like a violin, cello, or string section and I start to play while I watch the scene. This is the moment where the melodies are created and the themes are born. As I watch, I'm paying close attention to camera angle changes, facial expressions, the rhythm of the scene as well as many other variables.

Once I have the basic melody, or mood for the scene, I go back and build the orchestration. Here's the part that still blows me away and I always struggle to understand. Once I've created the music for a scene that does what it should do by being just another actor on the set helping to guide the viewer through the feelings that are happening at the moment, I sit back to watch and listen.
Then I ask myself, where did that creation come from, and the answer is...I totally don't know. I know that artistic creations are born from the inspiration a composer gets by living and breathing the movie scene, but when the melodies are born, and they turn out to be right for that character or clip, I always take a moment to try and understand just where this music comes from. I know that all of the composers reading this go through this process, so if you have thoughts on this, please let me know.

I hope you enjoy this music as much as I enjoyed creating it. ''

Peace,
- Peter Spero -
