The France was then the world’s longest passenger boat - 1032 feet - and its speed reached 30 knots. It was a source of pride for the French nation. Georges Delerue (1925 -1992) was at the beginning of the most creative period of his career. For this short film, he delivered two brilliant overtures and a waltz for large orchestra. In his score score we can detect the influence of Offenbach and the contemporary Darius Milhaud.
The Week-end en mer record has never been distributed commercially; it was produced for promotional purposes of the France ship. This vinyl has become an extremely rare and coveted collectors’ item. Most Delerue fans did not even know about this music.
