Black Screen Records, Videocult and composer James Primate are excited to take you an aural journey into the strange land of Rain World. With „Rain World - Selection from the OST“ the German record label is releasing the first installment of a massive 140+ songs soundtrack digital through all major platforms today followed by a limited edition vinyl release later this year.

Black Screen Records, Videocult and composer James Primate are excited to take you an aural journey into the strange land of Rain World. With „Rain World - Selection from the OST“ the German record label is releasing the first installment of a massive 140+ songs soundtrack digital through all major platforms today followed by a limited edition vinyl release later this year. The soundtrack was composed and produced by Videocult level designer and composer James Primate with a little help of Lydia Esrig (other half of Chiptune duo Bright Primate) and Rain World creator Joar Jakobsson. The artwork for the vinyl will be designed by Allegra 'Del' Northern. More info on the vinyl release will follow soon.

This has been a huge project for me, and represents a deeply personal journey, both for the little slugcat protagonist and for myself,“ says composer James Primate. „This music came from the seeds of a single concept: what musical languages and traditions would evolve in this alien world of hulking broken machines, dilapidated supercomputers, toxic wastelands and crumbling ancient ruins? It wouldn't be violins or woodwinds, it would be a symphony of junk! Warped electronics, banging pipes, scraping metal and the singing of incomprehensible alien voices; harsh or beautiful, light hearted or elegiac, these are the sounds of Rain World. You are a nomadic slugcat, both predator and prey in a broken ecosystem. Intense, bone-crushing rains pound the surface and make life almost impossible for most of the year, but the dry season has just arrived. Grab your spear and brave the industrial wastes, hunting enough food to survive another hibernation cycle, but be wary - other, bigger creatures have the same plan... and slugcats look delicious.
Separated from your family in a devastating flood, you must hunt for food and shelter between terrifying torrential downpours that threaten to drown all life. Climb through the ruins of an ancient civilization, evade the jaws of vicious predators, and discover new lands teeming with strange creatures and buried mysteries. Find your family before death finds you!
Inspired by the simplicity and aesthetics of 16-bit classics, this survival platformer requires fast-paced sneaking, both upon your own prey and past the jaws of hungry predators. Each ravenous foe in your path will be cunning, vicious and always on the hunt – eager to sink their teeth into you, or even each other. As a small, soft slugcat you must to rely on stealth and wit rather than force: learn the ecosystem and turn their strengths to your advantage. Maybe then you can survive… Rain World!
