New digital release : An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge by Henri Lanoë

Among its latest batch of digital releases, Disques Cinémusique brings you the restored version of the original EP that groups soundtrack excerpts from L'oiseau moqueur and An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge (La rivière du hibou), two short films directed by Robert Enrico early in his career.

Surprisingly the composer is Henri Lanoë, one of the most famous editors of French cinema of that period, notably a faithful collaborator of director Philippe de Broca. Henri Lanoë penned the music for only a handful of movies, but he was obviously a gifted film composer, capable of performing miracles with few means.

Although the compositions gathered here come from two different films, they prove to be very homogeneous, as much in the melodies as in the orchestrations, where guitar and flute dominate. An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, the most famous score, totals only six minutes but is particularly noteworthy because of the central English song A Livin’ Man. It contributed much to the fascination of this short fiction film, which won several prestigious prizes, including an Academy Award, and gained worldwide fame thanks to its screening as an episode of the American television series The Twilight Zone.
