When I was a little girl, the first time my mother took me to the theater in New York City, I was skeptical as how something beautiful could happen amidst the gritty and worn down city streets. I just wanted to get back on the train and go home to Long Island! But, as we sat in the theater with the lights dimmed, the Overture playing and the curtain going up, I was immediately enthralled and transported to sheer enchantment by the Glamour and the Magic of the Theatre. I knew somehow I wanted to be a part of that Broadway show. From that day on I listened to every musical theatre recording I could find. Some of the songs that transported my young mind to a world of make believe and joy are included on this CD.

When John asked me to record a CD, I jumped at the opportunity. This has been a true labor of love. We wanted to stay true to all of the authors’ intentions therefore, whenever possible, original Broadway orchestrations were used. The first song recorded was “I Could Have Danced All Night”. At the time, I was playing the role of Eliza, and so it was natural for me to sing it with an English accent. These composers have all inspired me. Some from when I was a child some have become friends and have nurtured my career and others I have yet to have the pleasure and privilege to meet. But I love all of the songs and I hope that you will too.

This CD is dedicated to my great Grandfather, composer A. Baldwin Sloane, original founding member of ASCAP.
