Rightfully hailed as a Renaissance man of American music, David Amram was a pioneer in introducing the French horn to jazz while playing with the bands of jazz legends such as Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton and Charles Mingus.
Using rare masters from his own personal archives, this five-disc boxed set includes highlights from seven of Amram's film scores and two Broadway productions. All the recordings have been remastered and set's 60-page color booklet was written by the composer.
Highlights include scores to John Frankenheimer's The Manchurian Candidate and The Young Savages, and Jack Kerouac's complete spontaneous narration for Alfred Leslie & Robert Frank's classic underground film Pull My Daisy.
David Amram has done a magnificent job. The score is exactly what I wanted for the film. The music is almost sane sometimes ... as the story is almost sane sometimes ... And at other times, the music is in the trees, just like the movie. It is a great score! --Frank Sinatra on The Manchurian Candidate
