Filmmusicsite.com has had the opportunity to talk to composers Rachel Portman & John Ehrlich.
Rachel Portman is a British composer who became the first woman composer to win an Academy Award, which she received for her work on Emma. She is also the first woman composer to win a Primetime Emmy Award, for her work on Bessy. She has written music for films such as Chocolat, Emma, The Cider House Rules, Their Finest, Godmothered and many more.
Jon Ehrlich is a highly accomplished composer with a prolific list of scoring credits encompassing a broad range of projects. He has nearly a thousand primetime television episodes scored and three Primetime Emmy nominations. He has written music for tv shows such as House, M.D., Roar, The Agency, Goliath, White Collar and many more.
Recently both composers have been working on Hulu’s Holocaust series We Were The Lucky Ones.
Rachel and Jon wrote the score for the WWII drama We Were The Lucky Ones. We get a front seat look on how the score was composed and more info on the recording process.

The 8-part series We Were the Lucky Ones is developed by Erica with Joey King, Logan Lerman, Henry-Lloyd Hughes, Hadas Yaron, Amit Rahav, Michael Aloni, Sam Woolf, Moran Rosenblatt, Lior Ashkenazi, Eva Feiler and Robin Weigert.
Based on Georgia Hunter’s New York Times bestselling novel, the television adaptation of “We Were the Lucky Ones” is a limited series inspired by the incredible true story of one Jewish family separated at the start of WWII.
The series follows them across continents as they do everything in their power to survive, and to reunite.
