The Story:
In order to defeat the wicked Grand Duke of Owls, a young boy, transformed into a cat, teams up with a group of barnyard animals to find the rooster who can raise the sun.
The Score:
« Don Bluth, Gary Goldman and John Pomeroy just kept saying ‘More energy! More pace! More excitement! Let’s ramp it up!’ Those were my marching orders and I tried to get into that way of thinking.
It was lots of notes and lots of activity to create this crazy score. The interesting thing to me is the virtuoso writing of animated films that Carl Stalling did.
It’s one of the few scoring arenas where you can really write a lot of notes and not worry about crushing the scenes or dialogue to death. So that was always the most fun part of listening to that kind of music and then being able to write it here.
The brass players almost died playing Rock-a-Doodle because there were a billion notes in this.
A billion! But it was fun. I don’t think I ever worked as hard on a movie as I did on this one. And after it was all over, I needed a week’s vacation. » – Robert Folk
