At the age of sixty, two friends in financial difficulties are going to benefit from their image in the fashion and advertising world. One is still beautiful, the other never was. But beyond the game of appearances, what is it really like to be of retirement age today ?
Statement by Robin Sykes:
« Just like the screenplay or editing, I consider music a complete form of writing for the film. Etienne's music doesn't just illustrate it; it dresses it up and changes its appearance, perception, and emotion.
He has that talent. With his composition, he can be a full-fledged actor in the work and become a narrative pillar. That's what happened with 'La finale' (‘In the Game’), and I was very eager for a new collaboration with him. After spending several months surrounded by many people, finding ourselves as a duo in a more straightforward, more direct creative process is a very privileged moment.
For 'Sexygénaires,' the stakes were different. I didn't want classical comedy-style music that would come in to support comedic effects. I wanted something different, more elegant, and above all, moving. It was a challenge to align specific sequences with that direction, and I'm glad we managed to meet it; it wasn't evident on paper.
As I'm not a musician at all and I sing out of tune, we had to invent a language to communicate musically, translate desires, and explore possibilities... it was funny. But the result is there, and I'm proud of it. »
Statement by Etienne Forget:
« This is my second collaboration with Robin, and just like in 'La finale'(‘In the Game’), we desired to blend humor with a profoundly human and naked foundation.
Like any good story, there's a pretext to discuss a subject. Here, it's the crazy adventure of senior models, the comedy, and the real issue: making peace with oneself before closing one's eyes for the last time.
In 'La finale'(‘In the Game’), Robin and I mainly focused on the treatment of the character's emotions, and for this film, we wanted to get even closer to it. So we concentrated on a purely orchestral composition with very exposed soloists to represent our characters and their inevitable loneliness in this final stage of their lives. Except for rare punctual passages, we find few or no elements traditionally associated with comedy and, above all, a lot of melodies.
It's a real chance for the music to have such an open-minded director, someone who asks for it and pays attention to the precision of the emotions to explore. It's also fortunate to be supported by such an enthusiastic production!
There's nostalgia, joy, playfulness, wonder, and, like an ultimate season, the desire to be reborn once again. »
