Milan Records today releases two musical soundtracks from the anime film series Sword Art Online – Progressive - by composer Yuki Kajiura.
Available everywhere, the release includes the original soundtrack from the first film in the series, Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night, as well as its sequel, Sword Art Online the Movie - Progressive- Scherzo of Deep Night, which makes its North American theatrical debut today. Composer Yuki Kajiura, whose lengthy discography spans over 25 years and includes everything from anime and video games to musicals, her solo project “FictionJunction”, and more, has been creating music for the Sword Art Online anime franchise since its debut in 2012.
Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Scherzo of Deep Night Original Soundtrack is now available to stream worldwide for the first-time ever, arriving alongside the North American theatrical release of the newest film in the series today.
Of the release, composer Yuki Kajiura says, “I am truly honored and happy that so many people will be able to hear the music I created for this wonderful work. The timing of the music is matched to every detail of the movie, so I think you will also enjoy listening to it as a reminder of the breath of the work.”
Sword Art Online:
Sword Art Online (published by Dengeki Bunko) is a light novel series by Reki Kawahara, winner of the 15th Dengeki Bunko Novel Grand Prize. The story revolves around main character Kirito and his heroics as a player in Sword Art Online, a next-generation VRMMORPG. The series has enjoyed massive popularity since Volume One was first published in April 2009, with cumulative worldwide sales topping 30 million copies by 2022.
An anime adaption, Sword Art Online, aired in 2012, followed by four more seasons to date (for a total of 97 episodes). In 2017, a theatrical film, Sword Art Online The Movie: Ordinal Scale, was released. In addition, the franchise has produced a wide-ranging media mix of games, comic books, etc.
Sword Art Online Progressive is a reboot series, penned by Kawahara himself, offering a deeper look at where it all began, on Aincrad’s first floor. 2021 saw the launch of an all-new animated film series based on Progressive. The first film in the series, Aria of a Starless Night, a rebooted Aincrad Arc seen from Asuna’s point of view rather than Kirito’s, debuted at No. 1 in Japan’s weekend box office revenue rankings, and was a long-running hit staying in theaters nationwide for 10 weeks.

Yuki Kajiura is a composer, lyricist and music producer. She has worked on a wide range of music for animation, film and television, in addition to producing and writing music for various artists. Her recent works include the historical documentary series Rekishi Hiwa Historia, Sword Art Online - Alicization- War of Underworld, Fate/stay night 【Heaven's Feel】and more. She is also active through her solo project “FictionJunction.”
