Lakeshore Records is set to release Devotion--Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally November 18, 2022 featuring music from Chanda Dancy (Aftershock, The Defeated). Dancy’s epically spirited and emotive orchestral score captures all of the intensity, exhilaration and camaraderie found in the story of two pilots during the Korean War.

The Sony Pictures and Black Label Media film directed by JD Dillard and starring Jonathan Majors, Glen Powell, Christina Jackson, Joe Jonas and Thomas Sadoski will be released in theaters November 23, 2022.

The original song “Not Alone” performed by Joe Jonas and Khalid is available on Republic Records.

Devotion, an aerial war epic written by Jake Crane and Jonathan A.H. Stewart based on the bestselling book of the same name by Adam Makos, tells the inspirational true story of two elite US Navy fighter pilots who helped turn the tide in the most brutal battle in the Korean War: Jesse Brown, the first Black aviator in Navy history and his fellow fighter pilot and friend, Tom Hudner.
Their heroic sacrifices and enduring friendship would ultimately make them the Navy’s most celebrated wingmen.

Notes Dancy: “Love is everlasting - love for your friends, love for your family, love for country and love for your fellow human. That is the true meaning of Devotion, and I wanted the score to reflect that. From the elation of flight in “The Lighthouse”, to tender love for a wife in “A Gift For Daisy”, true friendship in “Be There For Them”, duty to country in “Procedure”, and the very essence of standing up and showing up for others in “Measure Of A Man”, I hope to give the listener a sense of these emotions, and in turn, a glimpse into the lives of Jesse Brown, Daisy Brown, Tom Hudner, and the aviators of U.S. Navy VFA-32.”

Chanda Dancy

Native Texan, Chanda Dancy, started composing orchestral works at the age of 12. She has been described as a “phenomenal composer” (Ted Chung, Zacuto: Featured Filmmakers) and “quickly gaining recognition as a foremost black American contemporary composer.” (Anthony Parnther, Conductor, San Bernardino Symphony). Her works are described as “emotionally penetrating” (John Malveaux, Africlassical.com) and “rich” (George Heymont, Huffington Post).

An alumnus of the USC Film Scoring Program, and the Sundance Composers Lab, Chanda is both an accomplished film and television composer with over 18 years of experience and an emerging classical concert composer.
Arts Boston named her one of “10 Contemporary Black Composers You Should Know”.
She is known for her work on the Sundance award winning documentary “Aftershock” (Disney/Onyx Collective), the hit Netflix TV Original “The Defeated” starring Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights), the Korean War era epic “Devotion” starring Jonathan Majors (Da 5 Bloods, Loki) and Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick), and the Whitney Houston biopic “I Wanna Dance with Somebody”, directed by Kasi Lemmons.
