On the Come Up

Paramount Music and Sony Masterworks present two soundtracks for On the Come Up. The first album contains the songs from the movie performed by cast members Jamila C. Gray, Lil Yachty, Justin Martin, GaTa, as well as Lady London, Rapsody, & others. The second, the piece arranged and performed by pianist Chloe Flower is based on Chopin’s Waltz Op. 64: No. 2 in C-Sharp Minor.

On the Come Up is is directed by Sanaa Lathan with Jamila C. Gray, Lil Yachty, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Mike Epps, Justin Martin, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Titus Makin, GaTa, Michael Cooper Jr., Lathan herself and Cliff “Method Man” Smith.

The movie is based on the New York Times bestseller by Angie Thomas.

Twenty years after 8 Mile became an Oscar-winning movie, On the Come Up tells the story of a young female battle rapper split between staying true to the culture and selling out for mainstream commercialized rap.

This is another cinematic adaptation of The Hate U Give author Angie Thomas, while the movie also serves as the directorial debut for actress Sanaa Lathan.
