Original score from the 2021 documentary TV series directed by Jesse Vile, produced by Lightbox, released by Discovery+ (USA) and Amazon Studios (UK).
The Story:
Chronicles the dark side of the 1980s all-male striptease dance troupe.
The Score:
“The music had two overarching roles throughout the series. The first was to give an immediate sense of time and place, almost as if a jukebox were accompanying the narrative through the decades. Whether the themes were being performed by a live 13-piece RnB band in the 70s, or swapped for vintage synthesisers and drum machines in the 80s, I needed to authentically capture the sense of fun and adventure surrounding the club in it’s early years. Alongside these needle drops, it was important for me to capture the darker and more sinister arm of the story, representing The Curse.” – Alexander Parsons
The Composer:
Alexander is a musician and composer, known primarily for his work in film and television, and based in London. He has composed music for many multi-award winning films, including drama, documentary and animation. His work includes the landmark BBC 1 series Stephen: The Murder That Changed a Nation; the award-winning six-part BBC3 documentary series American High School and the BAFTA-nominated Channel 4 documentaries Muslim Drag Queens and Grayson Perry’s Dream House. Alexander has also composed scores to the BAFTA winning animation series’ I Can’t Go to School Today, Seeking Refuge and Animated Minds, as well as feature documentaries Rockfield: The Studio on the Farm and The Real Michael Jackson.

The muscular men of the Chippendales captured the hearts, minds, and dollars of the 1980s in their iconic cuffs and collars. As women’s liberation collided with new ideas of modern masculinity, this unique moment in history catapulted the Los Angeles dance troupe to untold riches and global fame. But as the crowds out front sky-rocketed from hundreds to thousands, the men behind the phenomenon plunged into greed, paranoia, and ultimately murder. Discover the audacious true crime plot behind the scenes, as the beefcakes and businessmen who made male strippers a household name fell foul of the Curse of the Chippendales.
Coming soon to Discovery Plus (US)
Amazon Prime Video (UK)
I had a lot of fun working with original equipment from the 70s, 80s and 90s for the series, as well as putting together a 15-piece band to perform the score. We recorded at Press Play Studio in South East London, with Andy Ramsey engineering. I’ll share more about the process following the release of the series. A small taster of the music can be heard in the Amazon Prime trailer (see link!)
