En collaboration avec EMI Music Publishing, Music Box Records présente, pour la première fois en CD, la bande originale du film de Bertrand Blier Préparez vos mouchoirs composée par Georges Delerue en 1978. Le film obtient des critiques dithyrambiques et gagne un César pour la musique originale, ainsi que l'Oscar du meilleur film étranger. Préparez vos mouchoirs constitue la troisième et dernière collaboration entre Bertrand Blier et Georges Delerue, après le documentaire Hitler, connais pas en 1963 et le très culte Calmos en 1976.
Le film raconte l'histoire de Raoul et Solange (Gérard Depardieu et Carole Laure), deux êtres perdus dans un monde étouffant, dominé par le béton et le conformisme d'une vie de couple ennuyeuse. Raoul est désespéré par la torpeur de son épouse Solange, c'est pourquoi il demande à un inconnu rencontré dans une brasserie (Stéphane, incarné par Patrick Dewaere) de s'occuper d'elle, afin qu'elle retrouve goût à la vie. Le dessein des deux hommes finit par tourner à l'obsession, tout comme leur passion pour la musique de Mozart.
Doué d'une solide culture musicale, Bertrand Blier est naturellement des plus exigeants en ce qui concerne les partitions accompagnant ses films. À la demande du réalisateur, Georges Delerue offre une partition vivante d'inspiration mozartienne (l'utilisation de l’Andante du concerto pour piano et orchestre n° 21 de Mozart dirigé par Delerue) et apporte un regard contemporain sur l'œuvre du compositeur autrichien.
La présente édition a été entièrement remasterisée à partir des sessions d'enregistrement et propose un morceau inédit par rapport au contenu de l'édition vinyle. Les notes du livret sont signées par Nicolas Magenham.

The film received rave reviews and won the César Award for Best Original Music, as well as the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. Préparez vos mouchoirs constitutes the third and last collaboration between Bertrand Blier and Georges Delerue, after the documentary Hitler, connais pas in 1963 and the cult success Calmos in 1976.
The film tells the story of Raoul and Solange (Gérard Depardieu and Carole Laure), two lost souls in a suffocating world dominated by the conformism of a dead-end relationship. Raoul is driven to despair by his wife Solange’s lethargy, which is why he asks a stranger he meets in a bar (Stéphane, played by Patrick Dewaere) to “pay her some attention”, so she can finally recapture a taste for life. The two men’s scheming ends up turning into an obsession, matched only by their passion for the music of Mozart.
Through his brilliant Mozart pastiches at the request of director Bertrand Blier, the composer of Contempt and Day for Night gives us a contemporary vision on the work of the Austrian composer (the use of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21 in C major, K.467 - Andante conducted by Delerue himself). Georges Delerue’s delightful score is catchy and plays charmingly with the narrative arc.
This present edition, fully remastered from the recording sessions master tapes, features one previously unreleased track (the alternate version of the lively track La poursuite). The package includes 8-page liner notes by Nicolas Magenham discussing the film and the score.
