Ce 17 octobre 2018, Jóhann Jóhannsson a remporté (à titre posthume) le prix du compositeur de l’année (Best Film Composer of the Year) aux 18e World Soundtrack Awards, la soirée de clôture du 45e festival du film de Gand.
Ce 17 octobre 2018, Jóhann Jóhannsson a remporté (à titre posthume) le prix du compositeur de l’année (Best Film Composer of the Year) aux 18e World Soundtrack Awards, la soirée de clôture du 45e festival du film de Gand.
Parmi les partitions du compositeur publiées au cours de l’année écoulée figurent les films Mandy, Mary Magdalene (co-auteur avec Hildur Guðnadóttir qui a accepté le prix en son nom) et The Mercy.
Il avait déjà reçu le prix l'an dernier dans la même catégorie.
Tamar-kali a reçu son premier World Soundtrack Award dans la catégorie «Découverte de l’année» pour sa musique du drame de Dee Rees, Mudbound. (Discovery of the Year 2018)
Ramin Djawadi a été honoré au titre de Compositeur de télévision de l’année pour son travail sur Game of Thrones & Westworld de HBO et The Strain de FX. (Best TV Composer of the Year)
Le prix du public a été attribué au compositeur Laurent Eyquem pour sa composition pour Nostalgia de Mark Pellington. (Public Choice Award)
En outre, la chanson-titre de Kendrick Lamar de Black Panther de Marvel a été nommée Meilleure chanson originale.
Le prix Sabam du meilleur jeune compositeur a été attribué à Logan Nelson et Rutger Reinders a remporté le prix de la meilleure partition originale pour une production belge pour Zagros. (Best Original Score for a Belgian Production)
Philippe Sarde a reçu le prix d'excellence à vie (Lifetime Achievement Award).
