Announcing Donna McKevitt’s latest EP Cut, released on June 8th. Cut, presents layered string-driven melodies coupled with enchanting vocals that feature on three of the tracks. The cinematic pieces are rhythmic and musically ambitious with a reflective yet compelling ambiance.

Donna describes that Cut “came from an attempt to fuse early music with modern minimalism.”

The track ‘Cut’ is in itself a snapshot of my journey so far and the pieces set around it are the details of that life: ‘Gush’, ‘Dido’ and ‘Suite’ began as miniature Brandenburg Concertos and finally emerged fused with madrigal and Dido’s famous lament. Years of singing sacred music in cathedrals and madrigals in bars, playing the viola in string quartets and orchestras has informed this work.

My intention was to write a work that could create and inspire pictures, the final coda ‘La Via’ is the road to that end.”

Donna has worked as a singer and violinist for illustrious names including Nick Cave, Moby and Michael Nyman. Whilst a member of Miranda Sex Garden, Donna worked with Derek Jarman on his final film, Blue. Following Jarman’s death, Donna began composing Translucence. The album featured a number of Jarman’s poems found in his diary, set for voices, viola and cello and was received with widespread critical acclaim.

Currently, Donna is a member of idealistic pop band The Mabuses and composes for a variety of projects including collaborations with photographer Emma Summerton and contributing soundtracks for a number of major fashion projects. In 2013 Donna scored her first feature film, indie drama The Fold, for director John Jencks and is now focusing on the release of Cut, available digitally on iTunes and on CD from the 8th June.
