In 2014 Alhambra Records released their first 3-CD set which brought together four scores by the composer Annette Focks. The enormous musical variety and the mix of well-known and lesser-known works provided a special attraction, which was also shared by many listeners. For this reason we wanted to continue this pattern of a 3-CD set and could win one of the most important German film composers of the past 20 years, who was not even represented in the recent Alhambra catalogue: Marius Ruhland. We are very proud to change this now and with this 3-CD set we are able to present you music from seven films and a concert work.

The set starts with CD1 and the two scores for the successful Anatomy films from 2000 and 2003 (with over 2 million spectators here in Germany part 1 was the most successful German film of the year). Up till now, only a few tracks from Anatomy 1 and Anatomy 2 have been available, but now this has changed. CD1 finally provides sufficient space for development for these two soundtracks and thus the listener has the opportunity to delve into the dark and mysterious world of the medical students. Anatomy 1 is characterized by threatening-exciting, but also sad-emotional and highly dramatic sounds, Anatomy 2 is enriched through a thrilling choral singing. Also included here of course is the popular easy listening track 22nd Floor.

After the thriller and horror genres on CD1 drama and history are the focus of CD2. First we have Eine Liebe für den Frieden (2014), the biography of Alfred Nobel (the inventor of dynamite) and the peace activist Bertha von Suttner. The music is characterized on the one hand by a warm classy main theme which represents the relationship of the two people, but also playful, Eastern European-exotic and haunting-serious tones are a part of this composition. The theme shock diagnosis in the case of lung cancer is the main topic of Glücksbringer (2011). For this TV movie Marius Ruhland composed a quiet chamber music with important parts by piano and guitar, which is sensitive, but at no time cheesy at all.

Kennedy’s Brain (2009) opens CD3. This is a two-part TV movie based on a novel by Henning Mankell. Marius Ruhland’ s music combines several key ideas that are skilfully brought together for a thrilling listening experience: At first the inner life, the grief, but also the fighting spirit of the protagonist, then the African locations, and thirdly the threat and tension of the action. The result is a dramatic, perceptive and diversified thriller score. On top of that, CD3 offers even more, for example highlights from the music for the Oscar-winning film The Counterfeiters (2007) or music from the comedy score Wie die Karnickel (2002) by director Sven Unterwaldt from a screenplay by Ralf König. The CD set and therefore also CD3 closes with a concert work which was commissioned by the Linde Group: The Linde Suite. Each movement of this concert work represents an epoch in the company’s history. The core element in Marius Ruhland`s composition is the Linde melody which pervades the entire work with many great variations. The Linde Suite was composed for orchestra, bandoneon, erhu and choir.
