Tense, aggressive horror soundtrack by Scott Glasgow hits hard on CD! Adam Green presents, BJ McDonnell directs, Danielle Harris, Zach Galligan, Caroline Williams & Kane Hodder star. Third installment of graphic horror franchise finds vengeful Harris, policeman Galligan, wife Williams all teaming up to uncover secret to killing slasher Hodder for all time. In tandem are team of mercenaries with their own agenda in bringing down the maniac. Adding to the intense violence is vivid, complex score by Scott Glasgow. Providing Cajun vibe to swamp setting of film, Glasgow adds washboard, ratchets, hat boxes, Cajun spoons to his percussion colors. Intelligent architecture of score finds Glasgow working with interesting motivic device: ascending half step, two-note figure plays, then rises slightly into wider (minor third) two-note figure, finally a complete four-note descending chromatic line. Idea actually gives uncommon structure to technique of horror scoring, provides substantial foundation in which all manner of challenging musical chaos plays: sliding strings, clusters of brass, outburst of percussion, even fortissimo hits from piano. Action highlights are many but deserving spotlight is 'Engage The Monster' with dynamic rhythmic ostinato driving exciting piece forward as frightening atonal material sounds above. Very next lengthy piece, 'Spineless', generates even more relentless intensity. Two cues together offer 12-minutes of knockout horror music! And there are still nearly fifty minutes more such musical excitement included on crisp, punchy CD produced by composer Glasgow. For those seeking quieter moments, brief respite comes with subtler, suspenseful ideas that are peppered about. But action stays keynote - with afore-mentioned motif, typically in low strings and brass, keeping everything cohesive. Hang on!
