American composer Matthew Margeson is originally from New Jersey and began studying classical piano at a very early age. He attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he studied contemporary film music along with honing his skills as a pianist, performing in every state on the Eastern seaboard. Matthew relocated to Los Angeles in 2003 and was invited to start an apprenticeship position with Klaus Badelt (The Recruit, Catwoman, Constantine). In 2005, he took the position of chief technical engineer for composer James Dooley at Hans Zimmer’s studio, Remote Control Productions, in Santa Monica, CA.

While at Remote Control, Margeson further developed his composition technique and style by collaborating with Zimmer as well as other composers on feature films such as: PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES, TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN, and X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, among many others. Margeson’s music has been played and recorded by orchestras in Los Angeles and London, as well as other ensembles throughout Eastern Europe.

In 2010, Margeson completed his first studio feature, SKYLINE, for Universal Studios. This score led to a nomination for the BSOSPIRIT Revelation Composer Award at the Úbeda Film Music Festival. In the fall of 2012, Matthew spent three months in London to do musical arrangements on SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF
SHADOWS.

In addition to Margeson’s film contributions, he has also composed the music for the Universal Studio Tram tour, as well as multiple TV shows and video games, including HBO’s EASTBOUND AND DOWN, and Sony Playstation’s acclaimed ALLSTAR BATTLE ROYALE.

Most recently, Margeson has completed writing the score to Matthew Vaughn’s highly anticipated KICK-ASS 2, which will be released by Universal Studios in August, 2013.
