Original soundtrack from 20th Century-Fox WWII actioner with Robert Mitchum, Curt Jurgens. Leigh Harline, most known as Disney composer (SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS, PINOCCHIO) makes about-face, offers dynamic action score for tale of American destroyer vs. German U-boat. Stirring main theme underscores destroyer, punchy trombone motif highlights U-boat. Unusual amount of solid low-brass scoring illuminates underwater action. Several cues become standards when tracked into later Irwin Allen TV shows. Intrada Special Collection release presents complete score in stereo from master elements vaulted in excellent condition. Bonus tracks offer Theodore Bikel vocal, military band march, Harline's fully-composed 'radar pings', other source music. Liner notes by Jeff Bond bring insight to film production, more. Lionel Newman conducts. Limited edition of 1000 pressings.
