Film Music Site is delighted to bring you another interview with film composer James Seymour Brett. British composer and conductor James Brett ventured into the film scoring world shortly after graduating from The Royal Academy in 1997 when renowned film composer Michael Kamen hired him to be his assistant. James collaborated with Kamen on a number of projects including X-Men, The Iron Giant, and the mini series Band of Brothers. James has also scored a number of films and TV shows, most notably the animated film ‘Planet 51,’ and the TV series ‘Crusoe.’ James’ music can also be heard in some of the most successful world arena shows. 'Walking With Dinosaurs,' which is still touring around the globe, featured animatronic dinosaurs choreographed to over 80 minutes of music composed by Brett. More recently, James composed music for the critically acclaimed arena spectacle, 'Batman: Live.' In August of 2012, James released a new crossover album titled The Sound of Gaya. The music featured integrates orchestral/film score elements with powerful vocals, tribal rhythms, and even guitars. The album is described as 'a unique mixture of ancient-tribal song and chant mixed with classic orchestral accompaniment but produced with modern pop sensibilities.' We wanted to know what inspired James to create such a unique album; he was kind enough to answer our questions.

The son of a professional flautist, British composer and conductor James Brett ventured into the film scoring world shortly after graduating from The Royal Academy in 1997 when renowned film composer Michael Kamen hired him to be his assistant. James collaborated with Kamen on a number of projects including X-Men, The Iron Giant, and the mini series Band of Brothers. Around this time, James also assisted as a musical director for the famous concert featuring Metallica and The San Francisco Symphony — a truly groundbreaking event. James has also scored a number of films and TV shows, most notably the animated film ‘Planet 51,’ and the TV series ‘Crusoe.’ He has also helped in the orchestrations and arrangements of other film scores including 2012 and AVP: Alien vs. Predator. James’ music does not only live within the film and TV realm, but more importantly, in some of the most successful world arena shows. 'Walking With Dinosaurs,' which is still touring around the globe, featured animatronic dinosaurs choreographed to over 80 minutes of music composed by Brett. More recently, James composed music for the critically acclaimed arena spectacle, 'Batman: Live,' currently playing in the UK. This show is scheduled to tour North America in the summer of 2012.
