Original soundtrack from Danny Devito nod to Alfred Hitchcock, starring DeVito, Billy Crystal, Rob Reiner. David Newman gives his own nod to Bernard Herrmann, offers orchestral score by turns suspenseful, exciting. Newman anchors with fully drawn main theme but heart of score is small repeating motif, given Herrmann-ish treatment for low strings, woodwinds. Some splendid French horn lines also get attention. Brief score develops several ideas, culminates in wild car chase music, finally winds down with warm, nostalgic glow. Entire score presented from original stereo master elements, courtesy MGM and composer Newman. David Newman conducts. Special Collection release limited to 1500 copies!
