Absolute rave reviews accompanied this film's premiere at the Cannes Film Festival last month. It stars Bruce Dern and Rachel Ward and is based on the novel by Jim Thomson, the Raymond Chandler-like author of the 40s and 50s who has no fewer than four films currently in production.
The story is of an ex-boxer and mental institute escapee who stumbles upon a desert town and into the life of widow Fay Anderson (Rachel Ward) and con-man Uncle Bud (outstandingly portrayed by Dern) with devastating results.
The ever prolific Maurice Jarre creates an intense and haunting score for an electronic ensemble led by himself.
