Wie de tracklist van deze compilatie grondig bekijkt, kan alleen maar onder de indruk zijn, want praktisch alle composities die deze verzamelaar haalden, zijn klassiekers.

Kopen dan maar die handel?

Wel, in geen geval. De samenstelling van deze verzamelaar is met de nodige zorg gebeurd, daar bestaat geen twijfel over. Het probleem met vele compilaties van filmmuziek, is echter dat het heropgenomen muziek betreft. In het beste geval door een gerenommeerd orkest dat zoveel als mogelijk de originele muziek poogt te benaderen, maar zelfs dat is bij deze compilatie niet het geval.

Wie een compilatie overweegt te kopen van Morricone doet er goed aan grondig na te gaan of het effectief gaat om de originele uitvoeringen. Meestal staat duidelijk op de cd-hoes welk orkest de uitvoerder is, zoals hier vermeld wordt dat 'Mask' de 'performer' is.

Al moet gezegd worden dat de labels alsmaar sluwer te werk gaan. Neem nu de recent verschenen 5 CD-box 'Ennio Morricone: Complete Spaghetti Westerns'. Op de albumcover staat er letterlijk '5 CD Morricone Original Score' waardoor men zou verwachten dat het inderdaad over de originele scores zou gaan. Niets is minder waar.

Er bestaan gelukkig veel compilaties met de originele uitvoeringen van Morricone's meeste memorabele composities, zoals 'Ennio Morricone: The Platinum Edition' (2007), een box die een 10 verdient.
