La Moglie Giovane - 08/10 - Recensie van John Mansell, ingevoerd op (Engels)

Stelvio Cipriani as we all know is a seasoned composer of music for film even during the early stages of his now long career the Maestro was able to turn his hand and his musical style to just about every kind of storyline, genre and scenario. Released in 1975, LA MOGLIE GIOVANE contains a score that is haunting and pleasing. The 1970,s were the busiest period for the composer and during that decade he work on numerous movies, that included more than a handful of westerns, a scattering of dramas, romances and more than his fair share of horror movies, giallo’s and police dramas with a light sprinkling of comedies. LA MOGLI GIOVANE I would say has a score that is fairly typical of Cipriani, but then again Cipriani is not a typical composer, so the music here is not only highly romantic and tuneful but it also has moments that are upbeat and dramatic in places. For the majority of the soundtrack I would say that Cipriani relies upon the utilization of a light and more pop oriented sound, strings, piano and subdued inclusion of harpsichord flourishes, organ, saxophone, percussion and also understated but effective woods all come together to create a work that is certainly easy on the ear and does create an atmosphere that is laid back and relaxing, I suppose what I am saying is this is in no way a complicated or difficult to listen to work, it is for me at least a soundtrack that one can easily leave playing in the background and although it would be basically background music one is still able to pick out certain musical passages, musical phrases and catchy themes. In many ways it reminded me very much of the composers THE ANONYMOUS VENITIAN, it has that sound to it, this is more prominent in track number 14, when piano and strings combine to create an emotive performance that is later in the proceedings joined by solo guitar and subtle harpsichord that is underlined by soft sounding strings. The score is melodic throughout and also has a highly romantic aura about it. The central theme is repeated all the way through the score, the composer building his secondary themes around it and arranging the haunting composition in a number of ways. These include poignant tone poems, jazz infused cues and easy listening excursions that once heard will linger for a long time within the listeners mind. This is definitely a release that every self respecting collector of Italian film music should posses. In fact if this is not in your collection, your collection will be lacking. Presented well by BEAT records the disc has excellent sound quality and informative liner notes with a booklet that contains a number of stills from the movie. Please don’t miss out, go get it………
