'The Helen Morgan Story' was a Warner Bros hit movie in the Fifties that told the dramatic story of American songstress Helen Morgan. It was released in the UK under the title 'Both Ends Of The Candle', and starred Ann Blyth and Paul Newman, with the brilliant Gogi Grant supplying the voice of the star. As well received as the film was, it was the record album that became an enormous success. And not surprisingly, for it presents a marvellous programme of classic songs of the era, sung by Gogi Grant with the most exquisite phrasing and richness of tone, backed by the lush orchestrations of Ray Heindorf. The record album became a classic in its own right, and is released now for the first time in the West, with all the songs digitally mastered.
