Carambola / Carambola, Filotto... Tutti in Buca - 04/10 - Revisione del John Mansell, presentato a (Inglese)
Two spaghetti western scores on one compact disc, sounds good to me. I was a little worried about this release when it was first announced, after all the Bixio-Frizzi-Tempera musical partnership has not been responsible for delivering classics in the past. These two scores are I have to say typical of the writing trio’s standards, jaunty and catchy little tunes laced with the odd reference to some of the more established trade marks of the Italian western score. I have to be honest and remark that my feelings towards the composers have not been altered because of this release, although both scores do have their moments. Like the De Angelis Brothers, Messrs Bixio, Frizzi and Tempera, seem to rely heavily upon the use of folk type music within their works for the cinema, and the utilization of pleasant enough, but sadly instantly forgettable songs. I want to recommend this score for its musical merits, but really if I am to be truthful it has very few merits at all in the music department. I would however say buy this compact disc because it is a score from an Italian western, and that is purely from a personal point of view because I am a fan of the genre and also of its soundtracks but other than that this particular release is somewhat disappointing, Packaging is to the Digit Movies normal high standard and sound quality is also excellent, again I have to fault the liner notes, but I think most collectors nowadays skip Digit liner notes because in 99 percent of cases they are un-readable. If you are expecting a full blown spaghetti score when you purchase this you might be somewhat disappointed, on the other hand you might be pleasantly surprised; it’s all a matter of personal preference I suppose. As I mentioned earlier in this review, I do think of Bixio and Tempera in a very similar way to that of De Angelis, some times it works but most of the time it is less than entertaining.
