The Blob is een gelei-achtige substantie die in een rustig stadje neerstort vanuit de ruimte. Hij begint als klein Blobje, maar naarmate hij gegeten heeft word hij groter en groter...slachtoffers worden kaalgevreten door z'n zoutzurige slijm of helemaal verorbert tot er niks van over blijft. Deze remake uit 1988 werd wederom een dikke hit, evenals het origineel uit 1958 met de toen nog debuterende Steve Mc Queen. Deze keer in de hoofdrollen Kevin Dillon en Shawnee Smith ( Amanda Young uit de Saw-films). Michael Hoenig scoorde de film en weet op originele en boeiende wijze gestalte te geven aan het stuk slijm uit de ruimte. Hij doet dit bijvoorbeeld door de kleine Blob een lichte synthesiserbrom te geven en naarmate de Blob groter word, word ook die brom ( of hoe je het geluid ook maar wilt noemen) dieper en luider. Een special edition is er dus van deze soundtrack met extra linernotes en productie weetjes, in een gelimiteerde oplage. De score luisterd lekker weg, en zit vol met dreiging en buitenaardse mysterieuze klanken, maar word nooit te overdreven neergezet.
