Another Chandos Prokofieff reissue from the Jarvi series (Nov/Dec 1991). This is Christopher Palmer's 'Concert Scenario' rather than the more familiar Stasevich oratorio. Both are based on the film music; Prokofieff never got around to making a concert version. Palmer's version is not very different from the Stasevich, especially if you get a recording of the Stasevich without narrator, like the superb Slatkin on Vox. Slatkin's tempos are slower, his atmosphere darker, more Slavic. Jarvi is almost cheerful! That hardly fits the film. His female singer is weaker, too. Great music, so if you can't find Slatkin (or get Vox to press it for you) that is worth having.
