The edgy and intoxicating track 'Rock My Boy's Body,' as heard in the end credits of episode four of HBO's The Righteous Gemstones Season 2 is now available and streaming on digital platforms. Written by Joseph Stephens & Edi Patterson and featuring vocals by Stephens, the song's true place in the Gemstone family universe has yet to be fully revealed.

Joseph Stephens says, 'One of the scripts called for a song named 'Rock My Boy's Body' to be performed by Edi Patterson, as Judy Gemstone. I created two completely different arrangements for this title; one version is more upbeat while the other is creepy and strange. Rather than choose between the two versions, Danny McBride decided to use both. He wanted the upbeat version for the scene within the show (performed by Edi) and the bizarre version (with my temp vocals) for the end credits. In the end, the filmed scene with the upbeat version and Edi's performance is potentially being preserved for a future place in the show but we elected to keep this bizarre version in place for the end credits.'

In 2020, Stephens alongside Danny McBride and Edi Patterson co-wrote the runaway hit 'Misbehavin'' from Season 1 of The Righteous Gemstones.

About Joseph Stephens

Joseph Stephens is a contemporary composer and songwriter for television and film. At an early age he began experimenting and creating music with 4 track tape machines, delay pedals, guitars, radios, and anything else he could get his hands on. Writing music and playing in bands throughout college, Joseph established lasting relationships with frequent collaborators Danny McBride, David Gordon Green, and Jody Hill.

He has contributed songs to a variety of films and television projects including the critically acclaimed All The Real Girls, Halloween, Observe and Report, and Cobra Kai. His song “Misbehavin’,” written for HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones, enjoyed spirited viral success in 2020. As a multi-instrumentalist, Stephens’ eclectic and often unpredictable scores incorporate unique compositions, colorful textures, and understated melodic presence.

His current work includes The Righteous Gemstones, Amazon series Upload from Greg Daniels, Netflix’s Never Have I Ever from Mindy Kaling, and the feature film, Family Squares, directed by Stephanie Laing.

Created, written and executive produced by Danny McBride (HBO’s Vice Principals and Eastbound & Down), and marking his third HBO comedy series from Rough House Pictures, The Righteous Gemstones tells the story of a world-famous televangelist family with a long tradition of deviance, greed and charitable work.
Season two finds our blessed Gemstone family threatened by outsiders from both the past and present who wish to destroy their empire. McBride collaborators Jody Hill and David Gordon Green also serve as executive producers and directors.
