Following the success of Night Watch Timur Bekmambetov’s Day Watch (2006) continued the story of two mystical cabals stuck in an eternal fight, adapting the remaining portions of Sergei Lukyanenko’s initial novel for the big screen.

The setup is the same, but the stakes are higher as the two orders must come face to face in a decisive showdown with one unfortunate protagonist stuck between the two immortal powers. Almost doubling the box-office success of its predecessor, Day Watch played a key role in launching Bekmambetov’s international career (Wanted, Ben-Hur)

The soundtracks to both Night Watch and Day Watch have been in the making for several years. They are arguably one of the finest achievements of the composer’s career.

For those familiar with the music from Night Watch, the sequel does not disappoint with key themes making welcome reappearances as new material is added to the escalating conflict between the light side and the dark side.

The CD comes with a generous booklet with Gergely Hubai giving a complete breakdown of the score, including the various cuts of the film circulated on different markets.
