Varèse Sarabande: The Latest Deluxe Editions! - Record Store Day

The Matrix demanded a score that was as unique, sophisticated and imaginative as its concept and action—and got one from composer Don Davis. Davis, who scored the Wachowskis’ Bound (1996), reinvented the symphonic language of the action blockbuster by drawing on cutting-edge concert-hall minimalism and his own background as an avant-garde composer, while maintaining the energy, pace and density required of a studio action film.

The Latest Deluxe Editions!

By popular request, this new Complete Edition on 2CD’s or 2 SACD’s presents the entire 44 track score for the very first time. Liner notes feature a new interview with Don Davis.

By 2003, John Powell had already scored The Bourne Identity and had his finger on the pulse of the modern action-thriller score. Paycheck blends synth and pop-rhythms with orchestral scope and, most importantly, Powell’s impeccable sense of taste. Despite almost non-stop action and suspense, he focuses on emotion and utilizes melody to elevate the proceedings. This 2CD set Deluxe Edition greatly expands the playing time to over 95 minutes, and features new liner notes incorporating new interview comments from Powell.

Village of the Damned Record Store Day 2021 (Orange Haze Vinyl)

Varèse Sarabande Records presents for Record Store Day 2021 the Deluxe Edition for Village of the Damned on color Vinyl.

Varèse Sarabande Records presents for Record Store Day 2021 the Deluxe Edition for Village of the Damned on color Vinyl.

The Deluxe Edition for Village of the Damned contains the full score as heard in the film for the first time, a far more complete presentation than the 1995 Original Soundtrack which was not only truncated but made of an entirely separate mix that wasn’t featured in the film.

The set does, however, include the track “Midwich Shuffle,” a fun number which was created specifically for the 1995 soundtrack, despite never actually appearing in the film. Interest in John Carpenter’s original film scores has never been higher, and his collaboration with Dave Davies of the Kinks is a one-of-a-kind moment in cinematic music history.

The album includes all-new original art direction with new notes and classic film stills and comes pressed on Orange Haze vinyl.

The coastal village of Midwich, California, isn’t the kind of town you’d notice unless you lived there. People drive through without taking their feet off the accelerator, and the locals prefer it that way. For them, Midwich is just a nice place to settle down, escape from the city, raise a family. It’s so quiet, you can hear your own thoughts.
And so can the children…..
