In the Fade is the new film by German director Fatih Akın (Soul Kitchen) starring Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds). It tells the story of Katja, a woman who finds her life collapsing after the death of her husband and son in a bomb attack. After a period of mourning the injustice, Katja decides to seek revenge.
The title of the film was inspired by the Queens of the Stone Age song “In the Fade” (on their 2000 Rated R album). Director Fatih Akın says he was listening to a lot of music by this American rock band when he was writing the film: “I had the feeling that this could be the music that the character was listening to, It has a self-destructive attitude and somehow the film is about self-destruction”. So he naturally asked the band’s front man Joshua Homme to compose the score to his new picture: 'I sent him a very early version of the film. He immediately called back saying he loved it and was blown away and that he would like to put his hands on it. We phoned maybe four or five times, sent 10 emails back and forth and then I had the music. It was a very uncomplicated, fast and very clean process of working.'
American musician Joshua Homme is one of the most famous and renowned characters in today’s rock world. Currently on a giant world tour with his band Queens of the Stone Age, we also saw Josh collaborating with Iggy Pop last year, Eagles of Death Metal, and Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones. His work for In the Fade is the first score he composed: a contemplative and harrowing music that perfectly fits the state of mind of Diane Kruger’s character in the film.
The soundtrack album also features the tracks The Bronze by Queens of the Stone Age, Anonymous Club by Courtney Barnett, The Blues by Hindi Zahra, Superhero by Faith No More and I Know Places by Lykke Li.
