Trevor Morris is composing the music for the upcoming Netflix original series Castlevania. The animated show based on the Konami video games is developed by comic book writer Warren Ellis (Red) and features the voices of Richard Armitage, James Callis and Graham McTavish. The series follows a vampire hunter fights to save a besieged city from an army of otherworldly beasts controlled by Dracula himself. Ellis is also executive producing the project with Kevin Kolde, Fred Seibert and Adi Shankar. A soundtrack album featuring Morris’ score from the series is in the works for a release this summer. Check back on this page for the full album details. The first season of Castlevania will premiere on July 7 on Netflix.
The animated series, which comes from Dredd executive producer Adi Shankar and writer Warren Ellis, will look to echo the tone of the music in the console game with a title track titled “The True Science” by two-time Emmy award-winning composer Trevor Morris of Lakeshore Records. This won’t be the first time Trevor has provided the score for a Netflix series, having done the same for Marvel Television’s Iron Fist. His video game credits also include SimCity Societies, Army of Two, Need for Speed: Carbon, and Dragon Age: Inquisition.
Morris told us that the world of Castlevania provides an endless supply of musical motivation. “Being asked to contribute to Castlevania was such a great call to get. As a composer it’s just a cool, colorful and interesting world to get into, and provides endless inspiration for music. It was just such a fun and cool project to work on, I could score Castlevania for years and years.
Ellis added, “Trevor is a master of his art: hugely innovative, yet with a deep understanding of early music, combined with a love of electronics, creating something weirdly primal but completely contemporary.”
