While the long-awaited Grateful Dead documentary Long Strange Trip will be available via Amazon Prime Video on June 2, the four-hour film is coming to theaters in New York City and Los Angeles on May 26. Additionally, producers have confirmed a soundtrack for the documentary will be released.

While the long-awaited Grateful Dead documentary Long Strange Trip will be available via Amazon Prime Video on June 2, the four-hour film is coming to theaters in New York City and Los Angeles on May 26. Additionally, producers have confirmed a soundtrack for the documentary will be released.

The film from director Amir Bar-Lev includes many never-before-seen interviews, footage and photos combined with a career-spanning soundtrack focusing of the Grateful Dead’s live performances. Long Strange Trip marks the first time Amazon Original Movies and Amazon Original Series have partnered on an original project to be released in both theaters and on Prime. Amazon Prime Video subscribers will be able to watch the lengthy documentary starting on June 2 for no additional cost.

Long Strange Trip’s soundtrack is due on May 26 and features rare and previously unreleased Grateful Dead recordings. The CD version is currently available for pre-order via Amazon. Eric Eisner, Nick Koskoff, Ken Dornstein, Justin Kreutzmann and film financer Alex Blavatnik are among the producers of the film. Executive producers include Martin Scorsese, Emma Tillinger Koskoff, Rick Yorn, Thomas J. Mangan IV, Alicia Sams, Andy Heller, Sandy Heller and surviving Grateful Dead members Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh and Bob Weir.
