It's Complicated - 08/10 - Review of Jason FLZ, submitted at
Romance movies can be complicated, and It's Complicated is no exception. Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin divorce. After seeing each other again, the reconcile (though their kids don't know). Steve Martin pops out on nowhere and falls in love with Meryl Streep. Soon everything is a mess. To provide music for the complicated (no pun intended) film came duo Heitor Pereira and Hans Zimmer.

The music for It's Complicated could be compared to the music you would hear in a coffee shop. For the most part, it's a simple light and fluffy romance score with a spanish twist. Most of the score feels like the perfect background music to a day on the beach, with a margarita in hand. Occasionally the pair do through some interesting ideas into the mix, such as the wild tango music in 'Interrupted Kiss' or the soft piano melody in 'iSight Surprise.'

The score for It's COmplicated is not bad at all. The light fluffiness of it is balanced out with charming use of the guitar in a spanish style. The flavor of the score is really what makes it so likable. It's Complicated is a nice treat when compared to all of the other stereotypical romance scores floating around nowadays. Unfortunately, the only flaw is that the album only contains 16 minutes of music which I suppose was all that was composed for the film. Otherwise, a nice little score worth a listen if you want to kick back and enjoy life.
