Topsy-Turvy vertelt het verhaal van de Londenaars Gilbert and Sullivan, een duo van schrijver en componist die honderd jaar geleden zowat het muikale theater domineerden met hun komische opera's. De film wil vooral de sfeer van destijds hercreëren, de wereld van Gilbert & Sullivan. De soundtrack is een verzameling van muziek en songs uit de bekendste komische opera's uit de Victoriaanse periode, zoals Mikado, Princess Ida, The Sorcerer, ... waarbij zowel liedjes maar evenveel instrumentale nummers op de cd terug te vinden zijn. Voor de film werd al de muziek opnieuw gearrangeerd en ingespeeld onder leiding van Carl Davis, met een verbluffend resultaat. Juist vanwege de gevarieerde selectie uit de beroemde opera's, allen uitstekend georchestreerd en uitgevoerd, maakt deze score zo interessant. Welkom in de wereld van Gilbert en Sullivan!
