Steiner's intention was not to provide musical cover for the dialogue-intensive trial, which ended with Queeg having a breakdown in the witness box. But when he learned that the 'RCA Victor' label wanted to release an LP promoting the dialogue of the trial while overshadowing Steiner's score, Steiner threatened to sue the publishers. When the publishers were unsuccessful, they stopped production, and very few copies were released. Today, this record is among the rarest film scores in the world and is worth thousands of dollars.
