Quartet Records and MovieScore Media present the new score composed by acclaimed composer Gabriel Yared (The Talented Mr. Ripley, Cold Mountain, Betty Blue, Academy Award-winning The English Patient) for the French romantic feature film L’Envol directed by Pietro Marcello, featuring Raphaël Thiéry, Juliette Jouan, Louis Garrel and Noémie Lvovsky.

The film tells about the emancipation of a young woman who is raised by her father, a widowed war veteran, as she strives to find her own path in life over twenty years (1919–1939), during a time of great inventions and great dreams.

Gabriel Yared provides a charming and passionate romantic score, with a certain Mediterranean flavor and a beautiful love theme.
There are also five original songs that are performed by the actors in the film. L’envol is one of the best scores composed by Yared in recent years, which once again confirms him as one of the great film music voices of the last decades.

This CD contains five exclusive bonus tracks not available in the digital release MovieScore Media.

The Score: “Director Pietro Marcello and I are both Mediterranean, self-taught, passionate about our craft and both ‘in love’ with J.S. Bach. We also share the same view about the essential role of music in a film, and its unconventional use. I met Pietro Marcello in December 2020, after watching his remarkable film Martin Eden.
L’Envol is one of my longest collaborations with a director and through this collaboration we developed a sincere and unwavering friendship.
There was a long period of work and exchange during which Pietro and I met every week. Over the course of this period, I composed the film’s main themes both before and during the shooting. Pietro is a visionary artist that I deeply admire. The score for L’Envol is based on the songs I composed long before the shooting.
These provided the inspiration and thematic elements for what followed. Since the film has a very intimate style, I wanted to carry this feeling onto the music, which is why all the pieces are orchestrated for a small ensemble. In the Passacaglia, which opens the album, I pay homage to J.S Bach whose music both Pietro and I adore.”
– Gabriel Yared –

The Composer: Oscar-winning composer Gabriel Yared is one of the most well respected composers in film. Yared won an Academy Award for his score to Anthony Minghella’s The English Patient, which also won him a BAFTA, Golden Globe and Grammy.
Other collaborations with Minghella include The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999), Cold Mountain (2003) and The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency (2008).
Over the past 40 years, he has worked on over 100 movies, including the films of such important directors as Costa-Gavras (Hannah K.), Robert Altman (Vincent & Theo), Philippe de Broca (Les 1001 Nuits), Mikael Håfström (1408) and Mira Nair (Amelia).
More recently Gabriel Yared has scored films like Judy (2019) which featured an Academy Award winning performance by Renée Zellweger or Jimmy Keyrouz’s Broken Keys (2021), which is the story of a Middle Eastern pianist whose instrument is destroyed by extremists.
